Spanish traders on their way to Los Angeles via the Spanish Trail during the early 18th century sought a route that would pass through the then-unexplored Las Vegas Valley. A young scout named Rafael Rivera discovered a valley with abundant wild grasses and a plentiful water supply that enabled the journey to be reduced by several days. This valley was named Las Vegas, Spanish for "The Meadows."
Since then, Las Vegas has grown in leaps and bounds to become the metropolis it is today - an excellent city to live in or near. The Las Vegas Valley - and the communities of Spanish Trail and Southern Terrace - truly have something for everyone.
Residents of Spanish Trail can take advantage of the renowned Spanish Trail Country Club. The club is home to 27 magnificent holes designed by Jerry Roberts. The district was recently granted a $650 million bond issue. This bond has allowed the district to meet the challenge of a growing student population and to open the equivalent of about one new school every month.
Residents of the area are never at a loss for things to do, with Fremont Street being a must-do experience. At night, Fremont Street presents a one-of-a-kind light and sound show that features more than two million lights and 540,000 watts of concert quality sound.
There are also 20-plus museums in and around Las Vegas, ranging from the Southern Nevada Museum of Fine Art to the Houdini Museum. More than a dozen theatres offer everything from Shakespeare to the play ?Ba-Da-Bing,? with numerous exhibits and galleries completing the Las Vegas Valley ensemble.
